Balcatta FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Johnson to become the Club’s NPLM’s Head Coach for Season 2022.
After taking on the role of Head Coach for the remainder of season 2021, with only 7 games to go, Michael's brief was basic, “keep us in NPL”. Giving them their dues, Michael and his Assistant Coach, Carl Medica, have turned Balcatta’s fortunes around, ensuring we finish off the year on a positive note.
The Board of Management has felt that Michael has earned the right to taken on the role for Season 2022 and beyond. “The appointment of Michael is a huge step in building a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the Club”, President Peter Carlino and Vice-President Neil Alessandrino said. “At the same time, we thank the numerous applicants that submitted their applications for the NPL Senior Men’s 1st team position”.
Michael, a former state league player with 20 years of coaching experience, 5 seasons as first team assistant at Sorrento FC, has had a 5 year association at the club, at junior and senior levels.
Carl, a championship state league player for over 11 years and head coach of Western Knights for two, has been at Balcatta for over 10 years, coaching at the NPL level for 4 years.
Both Michael and Carl bring a wealth of knowledge to the game and have demonstrated the ability to build team morale to a level where both the players and supporters have thoroughly enjoy being part of the Club along with seeing the team achieve success in a way that mattered to the Club and its supporters.
Our supporters and members are demanding more from our Club and as a Board of Management we owe it to them to make Balcatta FC a competitive Club that challenges for championships and achieves success. Part of this process will involve the development of a 5-to-10-year plan to secure the football future of Balcatta FC, making it a sustainable Club in the years to come.
Our aim is to leave a blue print where all areas of Club are represented in a “whole of Club” view. This process will commence over the coming weeks, with all key stakeholders being asked to participate. Michael and Carl will be pivotal to this plan.
From Michael, “thank you to Peter Carlino and the Board of Management in choosing me to lead this great Club and to be part of their vision. I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for Balcatta FC. It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build an inclusive and winning culture over the years to come”.
We know that in order to build a successful and sustainable Club it will take time and patience together with having the right people in the right positions. We are confident that Michael will be the ideal Head Coach for our immediate and long-term future.
“Keep your eye on the red and the blue”
