The first three rounds have seen admirable performances from our Senior team.

The opening fixture against the reigning champions was outstanding but the final result disappointing as they deserved to get something more from the game.  The desire and belief continued in round 2 against the inform Perth Glory Youth and were only seconds away from leaving the Ashfield Arena with three points however a lapse of concentration allowed Glory to spoil the evening with a draw.  This result presented opportunities to keep the momentum up along with working on certain moments of the game during the week, along with bringing in players in to help get the clubs first 3 points against round 3 opponents Floreat Athena.  Unfortunately, the team could not muster up any goals through its great build up play whereas the individual quality and tenacious defending displayed by Floreat was the catalyst in the admirable defeat.

Senior Head Coach Goran Stajic stated that “Catta supporters should be excited by the young players but also the news signings and older experienced campaigners as they have certainly provided or added great leadership and depth to the Senior squad.  One vital indicator or parameter that was set when signing players along with developing a style of play in 2018 was to score more goals, which we managed to do twice against a solid Bayswater outfit and twice against an organised and structured Perth Glory, were very unlucky to not have scored against Floreat but I am sure they will all go in sooner than later.

Nonetheless the conceding of goals is still a concern and we will endeavour to train them out of us and enforce it into our match day performances.  I make no excuses but we are going to have some ups and downs but the real enjoyment comes out seeing the growth in our young players; you are seeing it in Hayden Stevens (20), Renee Alba (18), Joseph Marino (20), Shubham Mokala (18) and if you were at the last two rounds you would’ve seen it in goal keeper Kyle McDonald (19).”

Stajic went on and encouraged all Balcatta FC supporters and non-supporters to come down to our first home game for the season and indicated that they will continue to see a determined Balcatta FC team that will be encouraged to win the match by being brave in ALL facets of the game, imaginative, attacking, along with physical and a defensive mindset in crucial zones throughout the 90+ minutes.

So Catta supporters we are being reminded ‘to be excited’ and to help with the BIG climb ahead of us.  We look forward to seeing a sea of red shirts at Grindelford Reserve on Saturday at 3pm, remember to always encourage and support our Senior teams, as I can assure you from what we have seen in the opening three fixtures, it’s an organised and determined team that gives it ALL for 90+ minutes and ultimately for the Red & the Blue…
